The Evolution of Cusken LTD
Cusken Ltd was established in May 1987, by John McKenna and Paddy McCusker. The company was initially set up as a dedicated service company.
Within a short period of time, it became clear that most companies in the area had to go outside the region, primarily Dublin to purchase new equipment for their offices. With this in mind, we endeavoured to obtain high profile dealerships for both sales and service for the North East region.
Our efforts were well rewarded with Cusken firstly being appointed agents for I.B.M. typewriters and word processors for Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Longford and Westmeath. Within a short period of time we were also appointed the Toshiba agent for the area, selling and servicing (photocopiers and fax machines). These were exciting times for this young company.
The company bought a new premises in Yorke Street, Dundalk. This was a major step as we were previously in a warehouse type environment with very little profile. The move gave us the profile we needed to expand.
Cusken was approached by the firm that distributed Samsung Cash Registers, and we were asked to become and agent for the area. Although this was a new direction for the company, we decided to take the challenge and enter into the Retail Machine market.
This turned out to be a good decision!
With rapid growth in this area of the business, Cusken quickly became established as a major supplier of the complete solution for the retailer, this included scanning, EPOS, and barcode scales. Later the company was successful in obtaining the TEC agency for the area. This was a tremendous boost to the company with such a quality product in our portfolio.
In 1996 Cusken was awarded the ISO 9002 accreditation this was a remarkable achievement for us and showed how seriously we took our business. At this time, we were the first company in this section to achieve this award in our area.
At this stage, we had purchased premises to facilitate a modern workshop and store at St. Alphonsus Rd, Dundalk. This gave the company even more area to display their products.
In 1997 the company felt there was a strong demand for a quality supplier of office furniture, so we decided to take our expertise to this market. Initially we were selling from catalogues and although successful, we felt the customer wanted and needed to see and feel the furniture, so with this in mind we started to look for a larger premises to display more of our wares, and what a search it was!!
After many disappointments, we found the perfect premises. Although just a shell, we redeveloped some of it, and also built a complete new two-storied section. It was a hard, yet exciting challenge but truly rewarding.
In 2001 the new and purpose built premises, complete with its own car park, was ready, and the move was on!! With this new, exciting and modern showroom, the only way our business could go was up…..and it did!!
Now well settled in our new premises, our aim is to continue to offer the best quality products with professional after-sales support at a competitive price. With Cusken dealing only with the manufacturer where ever possible, we believe that we have achieved this.
